The Master of Science Child & Youth Development at Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) is designed to develop professionals with advanced expertise in understanding, supporting, and enhancing the growth and well-being of children and youth. This program is open to applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, or Psychology (minimum CGPA 2.75), as well as those with relevant minors, diplomas, or a minimum of five years’ professional experience in related fields. International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements through TOEFL (550), IELTS (6.0), or an equivalent qualification.
The program integrates theoretical knowledge with research and practical applications, focusing on developmental stages, learning processes, and socio-emotional needs of children and young people. Students will engage with contemporary issues such as mental health, resilience, social inclusion, and youth empowerment, while exploring evidence-based practices informed by developmental psychology, neuroscience, and education. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, critical analysis, and innovation to equip students with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate impactful programs for children and youth in diverse settings.
Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers in education, youth services, counselling, research, and policy development, as well as leadership roles in governmental and non-governmental organizations focused on child and youth well-being. The program also provides a strong academic foundation for doctoral studies. By combining rigorous academic training with real-world relevance, the Master of Science Child & Youth Development ensures graduates are capable of making meaningful contributions to the positive growth and development of younger generations.
