This study focussed on nurturing emotional intelligence of four year old children in Pusat
Anak Permata Negara. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out the strategies
teachers and parents can use to help develop emotional intelligence of their pupils and children respectively. Further this study was to find out the emotional challenges of the children faced by parents and teachers and how they deal with the emotional problems. A mixed method was used to elicit the data. A semi-structured interview was conducted on 10 teachers and 10 parents from 10 different Pusat Anak Permata Negara, whilst 400 respondents, parents and teachers from different parts of Malaysia answered a survey questionaire on how the parents and teachers perceive the emotional intelligence domains (Glenn Doman, 1995). The qualitative and quantative data was analysed using manual coding, Principal Component Analysis and Structural Equation Modelling and paired T test. The results indicated a good fit model and a significant difference in the children’s expression and management of their emotions, motivation, empathy and in inter-relationship. Finally, two separate modules were produced. Hence the outcome of this study indicates children from Pusat Anak Permata Negara do have emotional intelligence, yet it can further be enhanced and nurtured using the modules.
