The study aims to identify the quality of parental engagement of parents in Pusat Permata Anak Negara (PAPN). The main focus of the study is to develop a profile of parents in PAPN in terms of the relationships between the quality of attachment, styles of parenting and methods of involvement,with the children’s development. This study also intends to develop guidelines and actvities for parental engagement in understanding the challenges and issues faced by the parents when mediating the with their children’s development and learning. The study continues to conduct workshop to enhance parental engagement by using the guidelines and activities books developed. Subsequently, researchers investigated the progress of their children’s development.
This study employs a three-phase research design. Phase I involved in collecting data from parents through the questionnaire Research on Parental Engagement Guidelines in Accelerating Children’s Excellence ( PEACE) in Pusat Anak Permata Negara. Parents and heads of the childcare centres in the states of Kedah, Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan participated in the study. They were then interviewed to investigate the challenges and issues faced in relating to their engagement, as parents, with their children development. In phase 2, researchers proposed guidelines in the Parental Engagement Guidelines (PEG) and listed activities for appropriate interval of ages in Parents Activity Book (PAB) that are able to support parents when mediating with their children.
